Data Management on Display at Informatica World 2019

This year, I attended Informatica World 2019, Informatica's annual user conference. The main focus this year was on the cloud with a heavy does of AI. Under that focus, Informatica's conference emphasized capabilities across six areas (all strong areas for Informatica): data integration, data management, data quality & governance, Master Data Management (MDM), data cataloging, and data security.

Most of the announcements centered on applications of AI and integrations on those six areas. "CLAIRE", Informatica's AI system, has expanded to data governance and privacy, along with applications in master data management. Along with AI features came more options for data storage and access, announcing support of Microsoft's Common Data Model and Azure Data Lake Storage, new assessment tools for migration to AWS (note: assessment tools, not migration tools), and an expanded partnership with Google Cloud. But one of the most interesting announcements was the data catalog integration with Microsoft, Tableau, and Databricks, as data catalogs are helping take data governance out of just preventing access to really helping enable users to find the right data. To see the full breakdown of the event, along with the impact to the market, watch my take below.
